Resources for Pet Owners Affected by the 2025 California Wildfire

The recent California wildfires have brought immense devastation and heartache to the affected communities. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by these fires, especially those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

During these challenging times, it's crucial to remember the safety of both humans and animals. If you are facing evacuation, prioritize the safety of yourself and your pets.

Here are some important things to know.

What to Do if You Need to Evacuate with Your Pet

  • Assemble a Pet Emergency Kit. This kit should include the following:
    • Food,
    • Water,
    • Medications,
    • Leashes/harnesses,
    • Carriers,
    • ID tags,
    • Vaccination records and other important medical documents.
    • Consider including familiar bedding, toys, and treats to provide comfort.
  • Plan your escape route and identify pet-friendly shelters in your area.
  • Make sure you know the location of the nearest veterinary clinic and animal hospital.
  • Ideally, you already had your pet microchipped. Microchipping is crucial for reunification if you become separated from your pet during the evacuation. Don’t forget to register your pet's microchip with a reputable pet recovery service.
  • During an evacuation, keep pets on leashes or in carriers.
  • Never leave pets unattended in vehicles.
  • Follow evacuation orders promptly. Do not delay your departure.
  • Prioritize the safety of yourself and your pets.
